It was a pretty stressful day yesterday. We started hm on baytril, and after a few handfeedings he spat up his formula in little driblets trhoughout the evening. He seemed fine and wanting to be with the others and wiggle his tail now and then despite this. HIs weight has dropped in total from 285 grams to this morning before eating to 260 grams. Mind you though, 285 is weighing him at night, every night after his dinner time. So the 260 grams would be a bit more by evening, but i do know he's lost weight. I got him up this morning and he seemed fine, the same he has been this past week. No better, no worse. I also noticed that he passed a very tiny little piece of undigested food. I called my vet at 8 am. I explained to her all of Austins symptomes and new developments. She said sounds like Ausin may have abit of Crop infection starting up and showing her (we made a trip this morning for a check up) the little piece of undigested food.....was not of concern. For the size and what it was, it wans't anything that alarmed her. She did mention to me that if there was a suspicion of that disease ( Dialated whatever) it would be unlikely in such a young bird and if even so, there is NOW medication to clear it up..unlike a year ago, there was no medications for that disease.
His tests came in also just now, and he tests perfectly normal. No disease has been detected, his organs are functioning as per expected, and his dietary is good. NO defincencies.
BTW, confirmed austin is indeed a male!!
??? What gives???
The only thing we are thinking off now, is that mabe Austin has been harbouring a bug in his crop that didn't show up with the crop swab we did earlier. Perhaps he has been fighting this on his own off and on.??
So , now we decided to put him on a anti fungal medication along with baytril. We decided since he is stable , is eating and pooping still fine and normal etc, we are giving him meds every few hours, handfeeding a bit every hour and giving the meds time to kick in. I am to check in with my vet again this afternoon, and if okay still and holding food down, we'll wait till morning, see how the meds have affected him in 24 hrs and if no improvement, our next move would be to give him a mask and do an Xray, scope and swab the crop again.
I pray to god we don't need to do this next procedure. I pray these meds make a difference!.
